How to Register

Before you can cast a vote in the General Election, you must first join the electoral roll - known as 'registering'.

How do I register to vote?

Even if you have registered before - for other elections, or elsewhere in the UK - we advise you to check that you are on the electoral roll for your local area, and if not, register again.

The easiest way to register is online - at gov.uk/register-to-vote. It's very simple - all it needs is basic information such as your name, date of birth, address, and National Insurance Number if you're a UK citizen. If you don't know what your National Insurance Number is,  our Advice Centre can help you find out, or get one.

Am I eligible to vote?

Voting in the General Election is not just restricted to citizens of the United Kingdom.
