Metric Welcome Events Union

We are proud to present to you, the ICU Comedy Night! We’ve pretty much nailed it with the line up if we do say so ourselves, it’s basically like having the Edinburgh Fringe right on your doorstep 🎤

Get yourselves ready for a night full of funny with (drumroll please)… Stephen Baily, Dane Baptiste, Alison Spittle and Omar Badawy!

    ✨ Stephen Bailey

Comedian, presenter, actor and writer, Stephen Bailey is a proud northern, working class, gay man. The multi-award nominated star’s indecorous brand of gossipy humour has singled him out as one of the UK’s most sought-after talents for comedy and entertainment formats. As well as being a prominent talent on the UK comedy circuit, he has also supported the biggest names in stand-up, including Katherine Ryan, Jenny Eclair, Jason Manford, John Bishop and Sarah Millican.

    ✨ Dane Baptiste

Original and provocative, Baptiste is hailed as one of the most exciting acts to break in years. The London born stand up made comedy history in 2014 as the first Black British act to be nominated for a comedy award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for his debut stand up show Citizen Dane.

More recently, Baptiste created, wrote and starred in his own sitcom Sunny D (BBC Three/One), which was the first black sitcom commissioned by the BBC in 20 years and is now being reformatted for US markets.

    ✨Alison Spittle

Alison has appeared on television a few times, enough times for her mam to tell strangers that she works for RTE (she doesn’t), not enough times for her to get a free drink. She has appeared on Republic of Telly and RTE’s New Comedy Awards.

Her new show Alison Spittle discovers Hawaii had a full sell out run at First Fortnight and was nominated for two awards, Little gem award for best show under an hour and the first fortnight award for destigmatizing mental health.

    ✨ Omar Badawy

So You Think You’re Funny Winner 2021 | Chortle Best Newcomer Nominee 2022 | Chortle Student Comedy Award Finalist 2021

Originally from Egypt, Omar started stand up in 2019 and, in his first year (and global pandemic), went on to win the prestigious 'So You Think You're Funny' award at the Edinburgh Fringe. He talks about his encounters with strange school friends, football fans and EDL-badge-wearing bouncers, providing unique insight from a childhood moving from Egypt to Wales to Cambridge.
