Chinese New Year Celebration volunteers needed!

Sunday 14 February 2016 00:00 - 23:00
Chinatown and trafalgar sq

Working with London Chinatown Chinese Association, we have a fantastic opportunity to get involved in volunteering for the Chinese New Year festival. There is so many ways to get involved on the day.

This includes:

Stage, backstage and production support

The main focal area of the Chinese New Year festival performances will occur on the main Trafalgar Square stage in front of thousands of people. In addition there are performance areas on Shaftesbury Ave and Charing Cross Road. The spectacular stage shows will run from 12:00 to 17:00 on festival day, and we need a team of capable volunteers preferably with some stage/production experience to help the production teams in terms of backstage operations, stage organisation, logistics etc to ensure the performances run smoothly and successfully .

Backstage and performers support

Key to the spectacular stage show on the Trafalgar Square festival stage are the performers who will put on the show! We have a programme of international performances with professional performances from both local artists and performance groups from China and Hong Kong. The backstage and performers support volunteer team work closely with the main stage team and will meet and manage the arrival and timing of performers at the Trafalgar Square stage and provide any logistic and information support as required. We need a team of organised, capable and responsible volunteers to ensure the transitions and timings run smoothly - we can’t tell you who you’ll run into and help, but they are top professional performers in their field!

Grand Parade Support

To kick off the London Chinese New Year festival, we once again have a dazzling parade featuring colourful costumes and international and local community performers.

The parade team work closely with events manager and security teams to make and will meet and manage the arrival and timing of performers at the Trafalgar Square stage and provide any logistic and information support as required. We need a team of organised, capable and responsible volunteers to ensure the parade keeps to time, the public and participants keep safe and that everyone enjoys the parade of colour and costumes to celebrate the year of the monkey with the Monkey King!

Press Media area management and support

A media/press tent and special press areas are designated in Trafalgar Square for the festival for all the media that will be reporting on this large scale event. The supporting volunteer team needs to efficiently manage the registration of the press teams and provide any logistic and information support as required. We need a team of capable and responsible volunteers who will work with the press and media, as well as keeping everyone within the guidelines and safety and performance restrictions - and you will get the best views in the festival! Social media management would fall under this team also!

All festival volunteer

In addition to specific areas of the parade as outlined about, we have a range of critical roles that span the entire footprint and time frame of the festival! The roles also can give a range of flexibility if you would like to be part of the festival, but are unable to stay the whole day, or if you prefer not to be in amongst the action and want to be more back office.

Time Commitment: On the day, different shifts available
Closing Date: 08/02/2016
