Imperial College Union is pleased to announce the recruitment of a new permanent Managing Director, following an extensive process just ended. Tom Flynn, an experienced leader within students’ unions and current CEO at Royal Holloway SU has been appointed to the role. He will initially be joining the Union on a phased basis, starting his induction for one day per week in June and building up to full-time responsibilities from September onwards.
The Trustee Board is confident that, with his track record, Tom is the right person to lead the Union at this point in its journey. The Board notes that this is a critical appointment at a time when outstanding leadership has never been more important. Abhijay Sood, the Union President says:
We’re delighted that we have been able to appoint Tom Flynn as our new Managing Director. He’s an experienced leader, with a strong understanding of students' unions. Throughout the process he’s demonstrated his commitment to supporting student leaders, as well as developing our partnership with the College. We think he’ll be a great asset and are confident that there will be exciting times for the Union ahead.
Tom is excited about starting at Imperial College Union, whilst also committed to ensuring that his current organisation is well-positioned for its next steps in the midst of the current crisis.
On his appointment, he said:
“Imperial College is a hugely prestigious, and important, institution as is the Students’ Union. There are many things that ICU does well, but also lots of opportunities to improve and develop in the future. There is no reason why Imperial College Union should not be one of the very best students’ unions in the UK. I look forward to working with our officers, the Board, staff and the College to building the kind of students’ union which our amazing Imperial students deserve.”
HR Consultant Graham Atkinson, who has been providing interim leadership since February, has agreed to extend his contract until Tom is able to fully assume the post.
