What group or organisation do you volunteer with?

Imperial College Aid to the Balkans (ICAB)

What is the purpose of ICAB and what does it hope to achieve?

Helping to bring fun to the lives of children in need in Bulgaria.

What activities do you undertake in your volunteer role as Liason Officer of ICAB?

Communicating with the volunteers and with the co-ordinator over in Bulgaria to ensure the placements get set up correctly and run as smoothly as possible.

What motivated you to start volunteering?

I love working with children and wanted to ensure that those most at need were receiving the attention they deserve.

Why did you choose to volunteer with ICAB?

It is a very worthwhile cause and you get to meet some amazing people and see some beautiful places.

What has been the most memorable moment of your volunteering experience?

Even though I never knew what I would be doing with the children and didn’t come with any plans, they always ran up to me at the start of the day and were sad when it was time to leave in the evening!

Why would you recommend volunteering to other Imperial students?

It is a great experience where you really feel like you make a difference. Even with no prior experience or language skills, they really appreciate just you being there and showing them some attention.
