A huge variety of music groups exist at Imperial College Union and their activities range from casual jam sessions to high profile performances in prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Winchester Cathedral and Cadogan Hall.
Many music groups go on tour to a wide variety of countries and continents. Imperial College Symphony Orchestra, Imperial’s flagship Orchestra recently returned from their tour to Finland where they performed in the world renowned Sibelius Hall on the anniversary of Sibelius’ death to a standing ovation. A Cappella have been on several tours to America, and will also be hosted an international A Capella competition on January 24th 2015 which will further increase the variety of performances and events the local community can enjoy.
There is also music happening on our other campuses. Silfest is an annual music festival attracting student performances and external artists to the idyllic venue in Ascot on our Silwood Campus. The whole festival is organised by the Silwood committee and last year continued until the early hours with spontaneous acoustic sessions on the campsite. This is definitely an event to experience unique performances and the talents of Imperial College students and explore our campuses away from South Kensington.
You can get involved in music groups at many different levels. From being a casual member, to being a backstage or a regular performer and star of a show. Some music groups audition players and others are happy to welcome all ability levels at any time of the year so get in touch with some groups and let out your inner creative self.
