In early 2013, a group of Imperial students wanted to spread awareness of the plight of Syrians in the ongoing civil war, and provide ways for fellow students to help alleviate the humanitarian crisis.
To achieve this, they set up Action Syria, a student-led awareness and fundraising campaign. Action Syria featured lectures, clothing collections, educational videos, social media presence and a fundraising website.
The campaign linked up with existing Imperial student groups such as the Islamic Society, and external charities such as Islamic Aid.
Hundreds of students engaged with the campaign, and many thousands of pounds were raised – including a large donation of £10,000 from a single donor, who was struck by the strength and energy of the campaign.
