Council approved a motion to lobby the University for improved prayer space provision by establishing temporary prayer rooms while waiting for the addition of new prayer spaces across key building and incorporating prayer spaces into long-term planning. The Union is also now required to annual reviews of the prayer space provision on campus to ensure it suits students’ needs.
Council approved delaying the election for the Deputy President for Financial Services (DPFS) role to the summer, pending the outcomes of the Democracy Review.
Council passed a motion advocating for the Union and University to transition to 100% plant-based catering by 2032, with a gradual increase in plant-based options over the next several years. The paper highlighted the environmental benefits of such a shift. Council discussed concerns about cultural preferences and food affordability during the transition.
After being duly considered by the Board of Trustees in line with the legal responsibilities of charity trustees, the Union released this statement regarding how the policy is being acted upon.
