Give It A Go!

Deputy President (Clubs & Societies)

I'm really excited to announce the launching of Imperial College Union's first Give It A Go scheme! We have been really busy working with various student groups to find and promote free or cheap opportunities to try new things during October.

Our Clubs, Societies & Projects

We are really proud at Imperial College Union of our 300+ Clubs, Societies & Projects which are student founded, led and driven. They provide a myriad of activities to meet the diverse interests and pastimes of our students and will all be showcased at our annual Freshers' Fair, taking place across our South Kensington Campus on Tuesday 1 October.

What is GIAG?

Give It A Go (GIAG) is our new programme which aims to highlight some of the opportunities happening at the start of term, giving a taste of what many of the Clubs, Societies & Projects offer. These are free or cheap taster sessions, events and activities which most importantly do not require the purchase of membership beforehand. This way, you can try new activities and get involved with many different clubs before committing to becoming a member.

How to get involved

GIAG booklets will be available at Freshers' Fair, in the Student Activities Centre and can be downloaded HERE. All these events and more are listed on our What’s On Calendar where you can specifically search for them. There will be more opportunities from student groups than what we have in GIAG and there are even some Union trips including one to IKEA which is super handy after moving here!

If you enjoy the new activities you try, you can become members of the Club, Society or Project by finding them on our A to Z!

Why Give It A Go?

The piece of advice I give the most often is to take the opportunities available to you as a student. University is the best time to meet new people, try new things and have amazing experiences outside of studies. Being a beginner at these events won't be unusual so I encourage you to take a look at what's on offer and make the most of your time at Imperial!

Look out for us!

Myself and the other Sabbatical officers will also be Giving It A Go! We will be attending some of the events listed to try new things and we will be complete beginners! Look out for blogs about our experiences and I hope to see some of you there!
