On the 9-13 March 2015, Women@Imperial Week is celebration of the Women at Imperial through a series of events and exhibitions. The motivation for this celebration is to shout about the achievements of Women in such a male-dominated environment, and in doing so hope to raise aspirations of women at Imperial and encourage both a higher attenuation of female academics, as well as more women to come to Imperial in the first place.
The logic behind the celebration being: you can’t be what you can’t see.
As part of Women@Imperial, we are producing a video for an exhibit where students talk about inspirational female leaders/teachers/friends/role-models and I want you to be in it!
In the video, students will talk about women who inspired them to study Science/Engineering/Maths/Medicine/Business. We are filming on the afternoon/evening of Wednesday 11 February in the media basement. Filming will only take 10 minutes, and all you need to do is stand in front of a camera, in front of a white background, and say your piece. I’m going to be doing it as well, as the only reason I studied Physics is because my Physics teacher, Mrs Bointon, was awesome. She was so passionate about the subject that I took more of an interest in it than I did any others. Ironically, this got a Male into University, but I still want to celebrate her inspiring passion.
I really want this event to be a huge success, as I’m sure you do as well! If you want to find out more, and/or participate in this yourself please drop me an email at union.president@imperial.ac.uk.
