If you aren't yet aware of RateMash, it is a site which allows users to rate other students at their university to create a ranking of the 'hottest guys and girls'. To use the site, it asks you to sign up through Facebook, which in doing so allows them to access some information from your profile and then profile photos of your friends which then end up on the site. Although this isn't a violation of Facebook's privacy policy, some students have been concerned about their pictures being used in this way without their consent.
If you'd like your details removed from the site, this can be done in two easy steps:
1. Find RateMash by searching for it on Facebook. Then click on 'Report a Problem'.
2. From there, choose the option of 'I'm reporting how this app is using my information' and then 'Submit'.
If you want to prevent apps your friends use from accessing your information in the future, you can do this by clicking on the cog icon in the top right-hand corner of the toolbar then clicking through to 'apps' from 'account settings'. In the section entitled 'apps others use' you can restrict the information on you that your friend's Facebook apps can access.
I have contacted RateMash asking for Imperial College's page to be taken down, but until they respond this is a good way of getting your information off the site in the meantime if it makes you uncomfortable.
