Lobbying Lords, Effecting Change

Deputy President (Welfare)

Following on from the Immigration Bill campaign, I’m happy to announce major developments in this area.

On Tuesday morning, I got a call from Lord Winston asking for clarification on the Union’s concerns for International Students if the proposed Immigration Bill was passed. After giving him a quick briefing, he took our concerns into the House of Lords’ Science and Technology Select Committee to ask for an inquiry. I’m pleased to announce this was granted and the following inquiry is going ahead:

Imperial College Union will be putting together a submission of evidence for this inquiry. But I thought in a departure from my usual blog format, I would keep it short and sweet to go celebrate. This has been a fantastic outcome of a lot of work which all started with a student working group putting a paper through our Union Council – I hope everyone who has been involved in this campaign feels heartened by this news.
