From March, Shop Extra on the Sherfield Walkway will be selling feminine hygiene products for significantly less cost than at present. This is due to a Council paper I wrote which was passed last week.
I was initially approached by a student about the lack of access to, and price of, feminine hygiene products on campus. As a result, I took a paper to Union Council after discussions with the Union management team, calling for the products to be sold ‘at cost’ (i.e. with no profit margin). The Union management team were very amenable to the idea, for which I am very grateful.
For many women, sanitary products are an essential rather than a luxury. It seems right therefore that these should be sold at minimum cost to our students and wider Imperial community.
Now it has got the approval of Council, the reduction will come into effect from 1st March.
Shop Extra is open from 8.30am until 6pm Monday to Friday.
