Nobody told me this job involved manual labour...

Deputy President (Education)

Welcome Week is coming to a close, and even though it has been amazing fun I am VERY grateful to be able to finally get some sleep tomorrow.

It all started last Saturday morning, up at 8am ready to help the new Freshers move into halls. This was the start of a week of "putting my back into it"... I swear my biceps have doubled in size! Saturday night brought the fantastic Alt Mingle organised by Marissa, and set up by some amazing volunteers and of course us sabbaticals. This involved lugging huge amounts of technical/sound/lighting equipment over from Beit to the JCR, but it was definitely worth it! At 11pm the hard work ended and the party started as we headed over to the Mingle, with us eventually leaving a 5.30am a little worse for wear...

Sunday was pretty much same again! Except this time when it was all over we had to completely clear the JCR of all that equipment. You guessed it- more heavy lifting! I also finished Mums and Dads allocations (finally) so you should now all know who your parents are.

Monday came and after a summer of a half-full campus it was great to see South Kensington buzzing again! This was continued on Tuesday, after a 7am start and getting 350 tables up and into position it was time for the biggest event of the week- Freshers Fair. This was a really long day, as after stewarding the event all day, the whole campus had to be put back to normal and the afterparty had to be set up. I still had enough energy (just) to get my tap shoes on for the afterparty.

On Wednesday I delivered rep training to my Departmental Reps and Academic Affairs Officers, so they are now ready to get to work and get you the best education possible! That evening it was the first CSP Wednesday AND the infamous Doctors and Nurses Pub Crawl ending in Heaven. Us Sabbs want to attend as many constiuent union events as we can, so that we get the chance to meet as many freshers as possible and to show everyone we are one big Union. *awwww ICU family*

By Thursday I was flagging. 3 hours sleep and a FULL DAY of sitting on an interview panel for a communications intern, so I sneakily took a night off (shhhhh!)

Friday I went over to St Marys to meet all the new students starting over there, while some of the rest of the team went over to Silwood Park. More heavy lifting as I dragged 100+ handbooks and activity and welfare guides over there, as we don't want students on other campuses missing out on all the great things we have to offer! Then the big event- Freshers Ball! Definitely my favourite night so far as I met SO many great people who I can't wait to bump into again.

And now Saturday has come around again, and with it the final event of our Welcome Week- PG Mingle. Excited to meet all you Postgrads this evening! And even more excited for SLEEP tomorrow.

Hopefully I won't have to lift anything...

DPE love,

Nat x
