This year has been an exceptional year for the 455 Reps in the Academic Representation Network.
We started the year with record-breaking elections, with 28% of Imperial students voting to elect their Year, course and Group representatives.
Departmental Reps teamed up with DepSocs in our most successful SocOff yet, getting 560 people through the doors of Metric raising money for the winning Departmental Societies.
350 Reps attended training sessions over 2 days in November, which also saw the first of our 2 Rep Weeks. Reps put on their bright red Love your Rep t-shirts and head off to all ends of the College to collect suggestions and ideas about how to improve their departments.
Spring Term brought survey mania, and with it the highest ever participation rates in Spring SOLE and the National Student Survey, with 84% of final year UGs filling in the survey.
February also brought the second of our Rep Weeks, with the main event being our first ever Representation Conference. This event brought together students and staff for an afternoon of talks and workshops, to discuss how we can best utilise the rep network to make Imperial excellent. We hope that this event will grow to be bigger every year.
One of the Union’s biggest events of the year is the Student Academic Choice Awards, which just could not go ahead without Reps. This year there were 600 nominations submitted, and out panels of Academic Reps read through all of these to decide on the finalists and winners. Reps also presented the awards at the incredible ceremony in May, which saw 8 exceptional members of College staff crowned the winners.
This year we have attended over 200 staff-student committees across the network, which is a staggering amount of time that our reps have dedicated to improving the student experience and amplifying the student voice.
At the Union Awards there were 3 categories to reward Academic Reps, all which were hotly contested. Congratulations to:
1. Physics, who won UG Rep team of the year
2. The NHLI who won PG Rep team of the year
and 3. James Murphy, CGCU Academic Affairs Officer, who won Academic Rep of the year.
We have had a fantastic year, so thank you to all the amazing Reps who have worked really hard over the last 12 months to make sure the student voice is heard throughout College.
DPE love,
