eLearning updates

Deputy President (Education)

Here's an overview of what is happening in the world of eLearning:

Panopto/lecture recording

Initially Panopto roll out was scheduled to take place over 3 years, but due to student’s being very vocal about wanting lecture recordings NOW this has been sped up to a 2 year programme. This summer a further 35 rooms have had Panopto installed, bringing the total number of rooms with Panopto to 72. The final 50 rooms that are scheduled to have Panopto installation will take place next summer. You can see the rooms/spaces with Panopto in here http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/ict/services/e-learning/staff/panopto/access/panopto_lecture_theatres

If your room isn’t on this list, then blame your department! ICT asked each department to prioritise which spaces they wanted to have Panopto in, and have installed the system according to these ranked preferences.

Imperial Mobile App

Download the Imperial Mobile App! Soon to be updated with stats on how busy Ethos is, this app already has loads of useful features including PC availability, the ability to fill out SOLE and to vote in upcoming elections. There is also an app for Blackboard Learn if you want to easily open up PowerPoint’s or access learning resources that are on Blackboard Learn.

Audio-Visual

ICT’s Audio-Visual department have been working hard to get funding to upgrade the AV facilities in heavily-used teaching spaces. This is a 5-year programme and will see 100 teaching spaces having their AV equipment completely upgraded, with the first 5 lecture theatres being completed this summer. Pop into the Clore LT in Huxley building to see a model example of what ICT hope every lecture theatre will look like! In these newly refurbished lecture theatres there will be easy to use kits for student groups that will allow them to access inputs/outputs, videos, sound, recordings without affecting the set up for that department’s lectures.

Printers

Over the summer ICT have replaced 200 of the 350 printers around college. Yay for faster, better more reliable printing!

If you have any opinions on current eLearning provisions then come along to the termly Student-ICT forums (which I will publicise closer to the time) or make your views known to your departmental representative.

DPE love,

Nat
