Next week will see a series of events to celebrate the global learning community here at Imperial. We have students and staff from every corner of the globe at the College, from over 125 different countries and territories; learning, researching and working together here in London.
The events start on Friday 28 February with the International Student Short-Film festival hosted in the Union Concert Hall by ICU Cinema. Showing will be a selection of short films directed by film school students. Although all the short films were directed by students some have already won prestigious awards and had their work screened all around the world including at our partner festival: the International Student Short-Film festival at Cergy-Pontoise. There are screenings at 18.00 and 20.30, tickets are priced at £3 for one screening and £5 for both, buy on the door.
From Monday 3 March through until Friday 7 March come along to the Junior Common Room in the Sherfield Building between 12.00 and 14.00 each day to see a number of our international societies sharing some great activities: from Hungarian goulash to Japanese origami. On Tuesday evening in FiveSixEight the Union’s very own super quiz will take on an International theme, and during the week we’ll be launching some new content on our website along a similar theme.
The week culminates with International Night on Thursday 6 March, the Overseas Societies Committee's annual flagship event, and showcases the best of over 40 country societies at Imperial. Not only is this a spectacular performance attracting an audience to fill the Great Hall, but it's also a night of cultural interaction and opportunities for students to gain a truly international perspective. This year, the theme is Beyond Barriers, and this year's International Night aims to be the best student production of its kind to make a positive impact on the student community at the College.
The performances promise to be beautiful and enlightening, culminating with one society being awarded a prize for Best Performance, there is also an audience raffle to win £100 from STA Travel. Come along and help make this event the most successful show as of yet. You can buy tickets online for £6 or on the door for £8. The show starts at19.00 – don’t be late!
