So here it is, first official day as an Officer Trustee - I'm sat at the newly relocated DPCS desk and I could not be more excited.
Handover has been a crazy whirl of meeting new people and learning as much about Imperial College Union as can physically fit into two and a half weeks. It's been a fantastic experience and I'm filled with ideas and enthusiasm for the year ahead.
Before handover had even started I was sent off to Swansea for the BUCS (British University and College Sport) conference with a theme of 'University sport and the world stage'. It was a great few days of networking with other Students' Unions to bring back ideas alongside inspirational talks and informative workshops suggesting how best we can support our student development. Returning from conference I'm now looking forward to seeing how the ideas and initiatives we have discussed can really be implemented in our union.
Other interesting discussion lately has been to do with our student volunteering programmes and the Imperial Plus scheme which has had a fantastic launch this last year. Looking at where these initiatives can go this year and how we can expand and develop them to bring them to as many students possible is very exciting.
Working towards programmes such as 'Out in Sport' and a huge Womens' Sports Day are just some of the schemes we have been discussing for their potential to grow all round participation and create an environment to increase both sporting excellence and sporting enjoyment.
I can truly say I am looking forward to this year and all the potential it holds,
Abi
