Local Elections are about local issues and local people.
On the local issues most important to Earl's Court residents, your Lib Dem team has been working hard for you:
Reduced Services
- Sharing services with LBHF and Westminster was not on the Tory manifesto. Despite assurances that RBKC would not lose out, there are signs that standards are falling:
Waste collection
- Reduced in Earls Court from 3 to 2 per week. This does not work in our high density area where there is a shortage of appropriate waste disposal space for many residents and fast food outle Winning Herets.
Bin Policy
- Banning bins is not the answer on our high footfall streets.
Education
- More of our children are not getting into the schools of their choice and are being allocated places outside the Borough.
Condition of our roads
- RBKC repaired just 111 potholes in the whole of 2013 despite £30.44m raised from parking charges.
Property Tax
- It is simply not fair that hard working families pay the same Council Tax as billionaires. We welcome new proposals - recently outlined by Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander - to introduce additional bands above the existing Council Band H. This is a fairer and more practical means of implementing sensible levies on high value properties.
Policing
- The Borough needs to be tougher with the Mayor and the Met over Policing. The present shift patterns do not reflect the needs of the individual Wards. We need a service that serves our community.
Need for Scrutiny
- Recent planning decisions show that a single party system requires real and tough Scrutiny, not a rubber stamp of "Cabinet" decisions.
Earls Court Redevelopment
- Only the Liberal Democrats in RBKC proposed and voted for an Area Action Plan. This would have enabled the Council to assess the full impact on local businesses and residents of the demolition of the Earls Court Exhibition Centre. And only your local Liberal Democrat candidates have been active in the Save Earl's Court campaign, lobbying for a full public inquiry such as the one the government granted to Smithfield market. Your local Liberal Democrats will continue to fight against the worst aspects of the proposed redevelopment.
Local Health Services
- The redevelopment of the Brompton hospital land is taking resources out of the Health Service to provide luxury accommodation for overseas investors. Developers will benefit much more than the other specialist Cancer and World-class cardiac centres on the site.
Your Council Tax pays for services ranging from Public Health, Policing, Library and Education as well as the Roads, Pavements, Lighting and Waste Collection-all of which affect our daily lives … one size does not fit all!
So on 22 May vote Liberal Democrat.
We care about our community all year round.
