About the Role

This role offers the chance to play an important part in the growing team of volunteers across the Science Museum in delivering events throughout the year. Successful volunteers will have the choice of taking part in our popular Lates (18+) and Astronights sleepover events for children, as well as daytime events for families taking place during school holidays.


Volunteers will:

  • Support the Special Events team to deliver events for adults, families, schools and community groups
  • Help to prepare equipment and materials for events and workshops
  • Assist Museum staff to meet and greet visitors to workshops
  • Assist Museum staff to facilitate the workshops
  • Take care of your personal health and safety and that of others. Complying with the Science Museum Group H&S Policies, risk assessments and safe systems of work and reporting any health and safety concerns

  • Additional Information:

  • To volunteer in this role, you must be 18 or over and eligible to volunteer in the UK. Unfortunately, SMG is unable to act as a sponsor organisation if you do not have the appropriate visa
  • This role is subject to a Basic Disclosure by the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS)

  • Volunteers will gain experience and knowledge of volunteering within the Science Museum Special Events and Learning team, as well as developing skills related to facilitating and engaging with adult, family, school and community audiences. They will also get a unique opportunity to volunteer in a busy museum environment and gain understanding of the Science Museum’s learning theory.
