CtrlAlt/Change 2013

This year, Imperial Hub will be launching a new Technology branch, the first-of-its-kind across the network of Student Hubs in UK universities. To see the official launch of this branch, CtrlAlt/Change, an interactive conference exploring technology for social good will be held on Saturday 30 November. Through a series of talks, panel discussion, workshops and an “Ideathon”, the conference aims to explore the empowerment of individuals, organisations and corporations in bringing about social change through the use of technology.

CtrlAlt/Change intends to showcase the many ways in which recent technological advances and developments have allowed more people to do social good. By allowing participants to get “hands-on” experiences through interactive sessions where they can attempt to develop new solutions with their ingenuity, the conference also aims to showcase what lies in the road ahead.

According to recent studies by NGOs and social enterprises, over 2 billion people in the developing world lack access to basic information and communication technologies (NoPC). More than 72 million children around the world remain unschooled (Humanium) and over 1 billion people rely on unsafe sources of water (UN). If we can use technology to better our already comfortable lives, we certainly can do more using technology to make a difference to the lives of the less fortunate.

Fortunately, many individuals and organisations have seen the potential in transforming the social sector through technology, and have been actively coming up with technological solutions that promise to alleviate pressing social problems.

To celebrate these achievements and champion new ones, we have invited various established and inspirational speakers who can open up your horizons to the possibilities brought about by technology. Confirmed attendees include Wikimedia, Bethal Green Ventures, DigitalStich and we’re continuing to announce our speaker lineup, with the full lineup available from 24th November.

If you would like to be further inspired by how technology can be used to create social change and empower people to do more social good, come along to CtrlAlt/Change 2013 right here at Imperial College London on 30th November. Tickets are on sale now for only £10, with lunch provided.
