Graduate Students' Union

The Graduate Students' Association are proposing changing their name to the Graduate Students' Union.

Imperial College Union has six Constituent Unions, each representing a subset of the student body, and operating under a Constitution of their own that is approved by the central Union’s Executive Committee. The Postgraduate student specific Union, the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) recently submitted their request to the Union Executive to be renamed the “Graduate Students’ Union (GSU)”. This re-brand was accepted by the Committee on Friday 10 May 2013.

As Constituent Unions are referred to in the Imperial College Union Constitution & Bye-Laws, these will have to be updated to reflect this change too. This will go to a vote of the Union Council, Trustee Board and College Council in due course. There is a possibility that the change may be rejected at any of these stages.

In order for the Postgraduate specific Constituent Union to grow and develop, and to give the GSU the best start possible next year under their new brand, the Union will adopt the name Graduate Students’ Union for the Summer Elections and all postgraduate communications for the time being, on the basis of the Executive’s approval of the re-brand.
