Welcome Week 2014

Welcome Week 2014 is 4 - 11 October, and it's the perfect start to your time at Imperial.

What can you do before Welcome Week?

Firstly, check out what's on at the Union and the College  - there's a full timetable of activities planned for Undergraduates and Postgraduates.

The Union will have a range of events on during Welcome Week and they're posted below. We have some specific events for Undergraduates and Postgraduates, but most events are open to all. Details about the line ups and how to get tickets will be posted soon. Check back here for more details and updates on further events!

You can also join one of our Clubs & Societies.  All you need to do is pay online. We have over 300 Clubs, Societies & Projects, and getting involved in one is a fantastic way to meet new people, learn a new skill, or to simply have fun! Look through our A to Z and you're bound to find something for you. All of our Clubs, Societies & Projects will be at Freshers’ Fair as well, so you can visit them in person during Welcome Week.

Sign up to the Imperial College London Freshers' 2014 Group to talk with other new students at Imperial before term starts, find out who else is on your course and get updates on all things Welcome Week! You can also follow Imperial College Union on Facebook and Twitter as well to get the latest news from us. In the run up to Welcome Week, keep an eye out for our hashtag #helloicu.

Saturday 4 & Sunday 5 October

Undergraduate Mingle
Union Bars, 19:00 - 01:00, £10 in advance
The Mingle is the first big social event of Welcome Week and a great way to get to know your new friends from your halls of residence and meet new ones.

Lite Mingle
Junior Common Room, 19:00 - 01:00, free
The Lite Mingle is for anyone who fancies a chilled out alternative to the Mingle. We will be showcasing a live-lounge of student performers as well as providing coffee and other non-alcoholic refreshments.

Meet the Union Officers and Graduate Students' Union in the h-bar
Saturday, 20:00 - 23:00, free
Sunday, 15:00 - 19:00, free

Monday 6 October

Pie & Ale Festival
Until Friday 10 August
All Union bars (FiveSixEight, h-bar and the Union Bar)

Live Comedy
Metric, doors open at 19:00, show at 20:00, price tbc
Bring your new friends and have a laugh and a giggle with our line-up of stand up comedians.

Open Mic Night with Jazz & Rock Society
h-bar, 19:00 - 23:00, free entry
The Jazz & Rock society is the Union's long running live music club - join them in the h-bar, and even join them on stage!

 

Tuesday 7 October 

Freshers' Fair
South Kensington campus, 11:00 – 16:00, free to attend
Imperial College Union Freshers' Fair is packed with stalls showing the best of what student life has to offer.

Freshers' Fair Afterparty
Metric and FiveSixEight, 17:00 – 23:00, free entry
The Freshers' Fair Afterparty is a great way to burn off all the free sweets you've consumed over the day and see Imperial College Union Clubs, Societies and Projects showcase their talents. 

Imperial Cinema Double Bill - How to Train Your Dragon 2 at 18:30, and X-Men Days of Future Past at 20:45
Concert Hall, Beit Quadrangle, from 18:30, £3.00 for members, £4 for non-members, or £5/7 (members/non-members) for the double bill of both films. Free ice cream with every ticket!
Imperial Cinema is the student run cinema of Imperial College London - join them for one of their first screenings of the year!

Wednesday 8 October 

CSP 80s
FiveSixEight and Metric, 19:00 – 01:00, free before 21:00, £2.50 thereafter
Step back in time to the 80s! CSP Wednesday is on during term time, and is your weekly night featuring sport and music and is open to all, whether you're part of a Club, Society or Project (CSP) or not.

Acoustic Band Night
h-bar, 20:00 - 23:00, free entry
Come and chill out in the h-bar to the sounds of our house band for the evening.

 

Thursday 9 October

Imperial Cinema Double Bill - X-Men Days of Future Past at 18:30, and How to Train Your Dragon 2 at 21:15

Live Music in Metric featuring IC Big Band

Metric plays hosts to a number of live bands for your listening pleasure! The line up includes IC Big Band playing swing and jazz classics as well as mixing up modern classics.

Graduate Students’ Union Pub Quiz
h-bar, 20:00 - 23:00 
Get a team together and use your grey matter to compete against some of the best minds in the world, you could win some great prizes.

 

Friday 10 October

Freshers’ Ball - click here to buy tickets! 
Metric, 20:00 – 03:00, £10 in advance, £13 on the door
The Freshers' Ball is the final party of Welcome Week and a great way to celebrate with your new found friends.

PGI Friday!
h-bar, 20:30 - 01:00
It might only be the first week of term and College life isn't yet in full swing, but it's still a Friday, so it's a reason to celebrate! Join us in the h-bar with a DJ on till 01:00.

 

Saturday 11 October 

Graduate Students’ Union Bus Tour
Meet at the h-bar, departs 10:00, free to join - just need travel costs
The Graduate Students' Union will be hosting free guided tours around central London for Masters and PhD students. If you're new to the city, want to meet the new postrgads or simply haven't got around to doing the tourist-y stuff yet, this is for you!
