Union statement regarding Teddington Sports Ground

Following on from the news that Sport Imperial plan to cease activity at Teddington Sports Ground, Imperial College Union wants to clarify our involvement to this point in this decision.

The Union President was informed about the potential purchase of Heston in advance, it was clear from that discussion that the purchase of this new facility would have an impact on Teddington but the extent and pace of this change was not clear at this time.  The information that was shared was to be treated as confidential due to commercial sensitivities.   The Union urged at the time, and continues to urge, detailed communication and consultation with students on any changes that affect the student experience, including any change to operations at Teddington.

The Union continues to be very supportive of the College's purchase of new facilities at Heston and is looking forward to playing an important role in ensuring the new space is well used by students.

The College and Sport Imperial have now released a statement regarding the future of Teddington Sports Ground - it can be read here.

The Union continues to encourage College to seek student feedback on the proposals around Heston and Teddington.
