Learn to Save a Life

In 2012, something amazing happened in the ICSMSU community - a medical student helped to save a stranger, who had suddenly collapsed by the Waterloo embankment, by promptly providing CPR and life-saving first aid. But first aid skills shouldn’t be limited to just the medics. Accidents can happen anytime anywhere in different ways, and therefore anyone with the most basic training can make a profound difference by knowing how to save somebody’s life.

So, instead of focusing on the same old new year resolutions, why not try something different and learn to save a life? On January 21, four student groups – Blood, Marrow & Organ Donor Drive (Imperial Hub), Imperial College First Aid Society (St John Ambulance), Imperial Marrow (Anthony Nolan Trust) and Saving Londoners Lives (Mayor of London initiative) – will be joining forces for the first time to deliver an exclusive Saving Lives Evening. Learn about important skills such as how to apply proper bandaging and perform resuscitation and CPR, and how to get access to further training and boost your volunteering/Imperial Plus hours. Also learn about the bigger picture – find out what it means to become a blood or organ donor, and have your questions and concerns addressed in person.

Life-saving skills are important assets to have and can boost your CV. The first Saving Lives Evening will run from 18:00-20:00 on January 21, with tickets available from http://savinglives.eventbrite.com. Only 50 tickets are available due to venue constraints, so be sure to register now.

If you are a current member of Blood, Marrow & Organ Donor Drive, Imperial College First Aid Society, Imperial Marrow and/or Saving Londoners Lives, you may help out and practice your skills as a trainer. Please contact your committees for further information.
