Introducing Imperial Hub's Schools Plus

On Monday, recruitment began for Imperial Hub’s Schools Plus Programme. Last year, over one hundred tutors inspired and supported disadvantaged pupils in local schools and community organisations. The results speak for themselves: at one school, thirteen out of seventeen pupils moved up at least one grade over the course of the year, and three of them moved up two grades or more.

Here are four things you might not know about Schools Plus…

  • Tutors can choose the subject they teach and a day of the week that suits them. Our partner schools are looking for expertise in Biology, Chemistry, Coding, Engineering, English, LifeSkills, Maths, Physics and Sports.
  • Educational disadvantage is a big issue in your local community. Pupils from low-income families are more four times less likely to get an A* at GCSE, so they really benefit from a bit of extra help from students like you. In our borough of Westminster 36% of secondary pupils are on Free School Meals, almost double the national average.
  • Tutors develop valuable skills in tutoring, communication, leadership and relationship building. Frequent training and networking opportunities will allow you to meet groups of like-minded people. Plus there are leadership roles if  you want to take their volunteering to the next level. 74% of last years volunteers said their experience had made them more employable.
  • Imperial Hub provides training and support to all tutors. No previous experience is required - we’re looking for enthusiastic and reliable students with a passion for passing on knowledge.

If you’d like to know more about being a Schools Plus tutor, come along to an information session, 12:30-13:30 on Wednesday 9 or Wednesday 16 October. Email support@imperialhub.org to reserve a place.

You can apply online at www.imperialhub.org/schoolsplus. Applications close on Monday 21 October.
