The Times Higher Education's (THE) Student Experience Survey 2014, which was published last week, measures students' opinions of their university experience. This year Imperial College Union was the second most improved students’ union in the UK rising 24 places. Overall we were rated 5.6 out of a possible 7 - an increase from 5.2 in 2013. This is a great result and a real measure of the hard work of our student volunteers, elected officers and staff in making our members time at Imperial the best it can be.
The most improved students’ union in the UK
Since 2010 Imperial College Union is the most improved students’ union in the UK* and we continue to be the highest rated for London Russell Group Student Unions. An area we are particularly proud of is the rating we receive for the 340+ Clubs, Societies & Projects we run. They were rated at 6.1 out of 7 placing us 17=, just behind the best-rated clubs at Oxford and Cambridge with 6.4.
Again, this is a great result and we continue to be proud to fund our student activities programme more than any other UK students' union, investing over £330,000 each year in direct club funding.
Overall Rankings
- Imperial College Union 24th in the UK
- Imperial College London 28th in the UK
Imperial College Union President, Tom Wheeler, said:
“It’s great to see that the hard work put in by our army of student volunteers, officers and staff has been reflected by this ongoing improvement in Students’ Union satisfaction. Providing our members with the best Clubs, Societies & Projects in London, as well as running the best Russell Group Students’ Union in London is not easy work, but this kind of recognition from our members is the reason we do what we do.
I’d also like to congratulate the College on their fantastic improvement to 28th best student experience in 2014/15 from 43rd in 2013/14, as well as achieving the 2nd best student experience in London. There’s a long way to go yet in achieving our shared vision of the best student experience in the Country, but this continual improvement is exactly what we need. Well done to everyone who works so hard in enhancing the student experience at Imperial.”
