Give It A Go ran for the first time at Imperial College Union in October 2013. It encouraged almost 3,000 students to take opportunities and attend trips or try new activities before committing to joining one of our 300+ Clubs, Societies & Projects. We have an incredible range of things students can do and get involved in and GIAG provided a great way for people to find out about some of the great events our student groups organise.
71 clubs were involved in our first Give It A Go and received publicity in booklets distributed at Freshers’ Fair 2013 and on the What’s On pages of the Union website.
3,000 students tried something new
We spoke to those clubs who got involved with GIAG and received some really positive feedback and suggestions for improving the scheme in the future. Across all the activities on offer by Clubs, Societies & Projects we attributed 7 extra students in attendance due to the GIAG scheme which is a total of 756 extra students for all the events.
60% of clubs thought GIAG helped increase membership and involvement, which is currently 6% higher than this time last year for all Clubs, Societies & Projects.
We asked clubs if they thought they would benefit from a second GIAG and 76% thought they would. The Deputy President (Clubs & Societies) is really keen to keep high engagement levels in CSPs throughout the year so this seems a great way to do so. There is also new Clubs, Societies & projects which start at different points in the year that could really benefit from this new year push.
So, after the first GIAG in October and feedback from student groups it will be back in January 2014! Clubs can sign up to GIAG for free advertising and promotion of events in booklets, online and in person on South Kensington campus. These events are open to non-members and every student can see a calendar of events they can attend without commitments!
