Imperial College Union would like to echo the message from Imperial’s President and Provost this morning, that Imperial College London will remain a European university and part of a global scientific and research community. We believe that every student, regardless of their origin, benefits from our international and diverse student population.

Imperial College Union is a proudly international institution, supporting student groups of over 100 nationalities and organising student activities that take place all over the world. 

We will work closely with College to establish the effect that today’s news will have on our members, including their fee status, visa status and opportunities to study, work and research abroad.

It is important to note that the UK is not currently expected to leave the EU for at least two years, and therefore students from the EU are not expected to be affected in the near future.

We will work hard to ensure that the coming changes will have minimal negative effect on the lives, activities and futures of our members. We are already working with student groups to understand and monitor the immediate effect of exchange rate fluctuations on their activities abroad, and are liaising with academic departments and College leadership.

We will also work with the charitable and higher education sectors to ensure the student voice is heard as they prepare their response to the EU referendum result.
