Raya El Laham
Hi! I am Raya, and I am a third year PhD student in the Department of Materials.
Having done my Masters degree at Imperial and having completed the second year of my PhD, I have an understanding of the issues that can affect students, whether in the academic aspects of their college experience, or their wellbeing and mental health.
I am currently the Research Academic and Welfare Officer for the Faculty of Engineering, and having this role for the last 2 years has given me the knowledge and tools to represent the postgraduate community, dealing with issues ranging from modules and coursework, to socials between different faculties and departments and personal/pastoral care. Being able to continue representing you for another year will allow me to overcome the challenges I have faced and build on the ideas and strategies developed, and achieve more in the coming year.
I believe that with my fellow representatives and working more closely with the union and the graduate school, we can ensure that postgraduate students’ academic needs are met, and their concerns are dealt with. I will also focus on the wellbeing and social needs to make their postgraduate experience more comfortable and enjoyable.
I am always happy to chat and look forward to representing you!
