I'm Ciara - I'm a second year Bioengineer and the current Vice President of WSET!
So why would I like to be President? Over the past year, I've worked with an amazing committee, and have really enjoyed both organising a range of social and networking events and meeting female students across different departments. As Vice President, I have been able to work on a variety of different tasks, such as event organisation, liaising with sponsors and publicity, so I have gained a good understanding of the overall workings of the society.
Working closely with our current President Charmaine, has helped me to learn what it takes to be a great committee leader, including the necessary delegation and management skills to enable smooth running of the society. I believe that with my experience on committee and enthusiasm for increasing female presence in STEM industries, I will be able to continue the great work of the committee this year, and implement some new ideas!
The main plans I hope to implement are:
- Deliver interactive workshops e.g. interview skills, being a female leader in STEM etc
- Organise a female undergraduate hackathon
- Increase the number of social events with similar societies at different universities
As an organised and determined person, I will endeavour to achieve these goals alongside the committee, and will listen to member feedback to ensure that WSET can deliver the best events and support possible! Thank you for your time and I would really appreciate your vote - every vote counts :-) !
