Events are useless if nobody hears about them, but most students are too distracted by their phones to look at posters or not coming into university to walk by one in the first place. That’s why it’s important to use social media effectively to make sure the panoptorers don’t get left out. Therefore, improving MathSoc’s presence online would be one of my main goals as Publicity Officer. Creating engaging and entertaining content, such as memes and polls about future events, is key to do this. However, there are many students who don’t use social media so it’s still necessary to create the eye-catching posters you see around MLC.

A year and half ago, I started a clothing company called Latorio (shameless plug, google us) which has required me to use Canva and Adobe Illustrator to create everything from business cards to clothes designs. So, I can churn out colourful posters as fast as the Social Secs come up with events. It has also given me an understanding on how to create a social media presence, increase engagement and get more followers; in under a year, Latorio has gained over a thousand followers.
