I’m Bilgesu and I’m running to be your next PhySoc President! PhySoc is a multifaceted society that not only caters to students’ academic curiosities but also social and welfare needs. PhySoc represents every physics students in the department. Whilst speaking to undergraduates from different years I’ve realized that there is little awareness on PhySoc’s roles. I believe one of the most important jobs of the PhySoc President is to nurture community spirit in our department by organising events all year.
Here are some ideas for PhySoc that I am excited to pursue as the President:
-The continuation of PhySoc’s previous successful events, such as the Boat Party and the Christmas Dinner.
-Be a proximentor for students networking events that bring together current students and graduates, providing a foothold in industry fields such as finance, technology and research startups.
-Create affordable social events that appeal to many students and attract various interests.
-Organising student-staff socials and undergraduate-postgraduate engagements where students can get a feel for academia.
-Working with the academic and wellbeing reps to provide departmental feedback and prioritise the student voice.
-Finding sources of funding to overcome financial limitations, so that events can be organised without reliance on the department.
Vote for me if these things interest you and you would like to see Physics Society thrive. Thank you for your time and I hope to see you at next year’s events!!
